Is it almost time for your move this summer? A few weeks can pass by quickly, and you want to make sure you’re not caught off guard by the time moving day comes around. Beat procrastination and set aside time this week to call your moving company for some quality moving boxes and packing materials.

All My Sons Moving & Storage will deliver a variety of moving boxes and packing supplies to your door at no charge, but check with your moving company to make sure the service is offered. You will only pay for what you use, so don’t worry if you have extra moving boxes lying around. There are various types of moving boxes you can request, including dish packs and wardrobe boxes. Dish packs come equipped with separated cubbies for glasses and mugs. Wardrobe boxes are tall and come with a cardboard rod to hang your clothing on. Of course, I also have boxes of all sizes for anything from bedding to books.

If you’re looking to collect some used moving boxes, beware that a used box is structurally weaker than a new one. Ask your moving and storage company for gently used boxes, or stick with new ones. The longer your belongings will be in moving boxes, the sturdier the box should be. Naturally, my coworkers and I are here if you have any questions before, during and after moving day.

When things get busy and time is scarce, it is easy to get overwhelmed, especially when it comes to your move to Dallas. The smallest hiccup in your plans can be enough to set you on edge and slow your progress. I know moving is stressful, and you want to get it over with as soon as possible. But slow down! During your move, take a few deep breaths and take it slow. Rushing can lead to injuries and costly damages if you mishandle your belongings. Here are a few tips to help keep you focused during a hectic move:

1) Have a Plan – Move heavy items first, when you’re more rested. Move boxes room by room, starting at one end of the house and making your way to the opposite end.
2) It’s Not a Race! – Don’t walk too quickly while carrying heavy items. Also, refrain from trying to lift bulky items without the help of another mover.
3) For best results, call professional movers! There is no substitute for experience.

Summer is getting closer, and so is your summer move! Hopefully your plans are moving along smoothly. It’s a little less than a month from moving day now, so here are some additional tasks to take care of now to ensure a smooth move to Dallas.   Be sure to check out past posts to make sure you’ve covered all of the initial preparations.

1) It’s time to create your furniture floor plan. Make a rough sketch of your new space and decide how you would like your furniture arranged. You can even color-code your furniture by room. Preplanning will make your move easier, and your Dallas movers will make sure each piece is placed as you want it. This way, you won’t have to move your heavy items and rearrange everything after the movers have left.

2) If you live in a multi-unit complex, particularly a high-rise, make preparations for a smooth move out of the community. Some communities can reserve a freight elevator at your request, giving your movers access and much-needed space to safely move your belongings without imposing on other residents. Check to see if loading docks or special parking are available and make a reservation for your moving day. Access to a dock will help your professional movers load your items more efficiently.

Four weeks can go by quickly, so keep checking back for more moving tips as the countdown to moving day continues!

Welcome to the first week of May! Our Dallas movers are continuing to prepare for a busy summer moving season, but that doesn’t mean there’s no time left for celebration. As you join the DFW community in celebrating Cinco de Mayo, reflect on the importance of the holiday.

Cinco de Mayo is a highly-celebrated holiday in Mexico commemorating the Mexican army’s defeat of the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The battle is famous as an underdog success story. The French army was notably better-equiped than Mexican forces and had remained undefeated for 50 years. The holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico and the United States with gatherings that include food, music and dancing…and maybe a cerveza or two!

Enjoy the festivities happening around the community and at local Mexican restaurants. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

In this economy, a good employee is a priceless commodity. So when all of those great employees are interrupted by a stressful move of your business, productivity can suffer. If you find yourself facing a corporate relocation in Dallas, it can be an anxious time for business owner and employee alike. You’re preparing for a new environment while business needs to go on as usual.

So what to do? To solve this problem and save your business a lot of headaches, my coworkers and I implement a plan that expedites your move while reducing impact to your employees and your business. How do we do this? All My Sons assigns your company a personal moving consultant the minute you call to request our professional moving and storage services. Your moving consultant, our office staff and a large team of Dallas movers get to work planning your office relocation. We break into teams, with half handing the safe loading of your company’s belongings while the other team transports and safely unloads your belongings. We can set up furniture while protecting the walls and flooring of your new space. As an added bonus (and my favorite feature), most office relocations are performed using plastic, stackable bins instead of cardboard boxes. These bins offer more protection for your belongings while reducing environmental impact.

All My Sons definitely has experience in corporate relocations. We also offer storage for businesses, moving tips and more.
