A few weeks ago I laid out some suggestions to begin organizing, planning and executing your move this summer. How are the preparations going? Now that summer is just over a month away, there are a few more things you can do to ensure a smooth move to Dallas.

Have you submitted a Change of Address form to the post office? Visit the USPS website to change your address online, or pick up a hardcopy at your local post office. Be sure to allow a few weeks for the USPS to process the form and update your address. In the mean time, let everyone from family members to service providers know that your address is changing to prevent delays in receiving your mail.

If you have a green thumb, start planning on the transport of your plants. If you want to take your garden with you, pot your ground plants. Remember, most moving companies cannot move your potted plants, so plan to move them yourself or make alternative arrangements. It’s a good idea to pack fragile potters and repot your plants in portable, plastic pots for the move.

Don’t forget you pets! Remember that a move can be as stressful for Fido as it is for your human children. If you have access to your new home at this point, take your dog over to the new area. Even a brief introduction to the backyard will make your pet feel more comfortable with the change.

Getting these simple yet often time-consuming tasks out of the way now will leave you with less to worry about on moving day! For more moving tips, come back soon or visit our moving checklist on the All My Sons website.
