Trash those moth balls for good!

Trash those moth balls for good!

A childhood memory recently popped into my head as I was thinking about how moving and storage processes have matured over the years. My family utilized our attic to store our winter clothes during the summer and vice versa. I remember pulling a favorite sweater out of a cardboard moving box, the pungent and medicinal smell of moth balls permeating each piece of clothing in the box. Yuck! It seemed like it took weeks to get the smell out.

While storage is easy and convenient at All My Sons, some of our customers prefer utilizing closet, attic and shed space for their storage needs. New products are now on the market and offer protection for your items, without the stinky moth ball smell. Here are a few tips to help keep your stored goods in great shape.

1) While moving boxes are great to use during your move, avoid using them for storage purposes. Purchase a few large, sturdy plastic bins that seal tightly to keep out air, bugs and dust.
2) Take advantage of vacuum sealable products. These space-saving bags let you use your vacuum cleaner to pull air out of specially-designed, durable storage bags. Your items stay safe and, in the case of linens or clothing, take up less space than traditional storage methods.
3) Choose your storage area wisely. Remember that your attic can reach sweltering temperatures on even a mild day in DFW. Candles, thin plastics and plywood can warp and crack in extreme temperatures.

If professional storage isn’t for you, the Dallas movers of All My Sons want to make your home storage as convenient, safe and easy as possible.
